Study the classical approach to objects placed in space – flowers, vases, fruit, vegetables, and common objects. Think Monet, Van Gogh, Cezanne, and the modern still life painters such as William Bailey, where developing color, composition, light source, placement of object to object, relationship of the foreground to the middle ground and their relationship to background with the goal of creating a 3D composition from a 2D dimensional canvas. Using acrylic, oil or watercolor, learn the fundamentals of building up a composition with objects chosen by the student, studying from the instructors’ still life or copying the Masters.
