Still Life Painting

Study the classical approach to objects placed in space – flowers, vases, fruit, vegetables, and common objects. Think Monet, Van Gogh, Cezanne, and the modern still life painters such as William Bailey, where developing color, composition, light source, placement of object to object, relationship of the foreground to the middle ground and their relationship to background with the goal of creating a 3D composition from a 2D dimensional canvas. Using acrylic, oil or watercolor, learn the fundamentals of building up a composition with objects chosen by the student, studying from the instructors’ still life or copying the Masters.
*Students may paint in Watercolor, Oil or Acrylic

If working in oil: 12 colors basic set of oil paints, turpentine and linseed oil
If working in acrylic: 12 color basic set of acrylic paints
4 – 11” X 14” canvas boards or stretch canvases
One 9”X12” paper palette
One set of basic brushes – round tips

Vicky Tesmer
Celebrated American artist, Vicky Tesmer, is a practicing professional artist from Chicago. Her work can be seen in collections throughout America, Paris, Egypt and Germany. She is represented by Artfully Walls, Anthropologie and has exhibited throughout Chicago. She received her MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and studied in Versallies, France where she learned techniques of the Renaissance Masters and was classically trained. Her murals and interiors can be seen in countless interiors.
