Clay for Kids

This class introduces youth students to the wonderful potential of clay. Students will have a blast expressing themselves artistically while creating both functional and fun pottery. Each class session, students will learn hand building techniques for creating and finishing unique clay pieces. New projects each session.

Karen Nelson
Karen is a native Californian with a career as a decorative painter. She brings to her students her knowledge of composition, color, design and communication. Karen has honed her painting skills using acrylic and oil paint for murals, specialist painting techniques and watercolors for commissioned artwork.
With her ceramics, Karen hand-builds and applies her painting skills to the decoration of the surface. Ceramics allows her to create without a high bar of perfection, allowing for the thrill of the unknown, taking chances and having fun.
Karen graduated from Mills College, having studied ceramics with Ron Nagle. She received her MFA in painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. After graduating she taught painting classes at SAIC while starting her business.
