Abstract Painting & Mixed Media

Adult Classes | Available

Building upon what has been taught in my previous abstract painting classes, adding mixed media will create additional depth, texture, and color. You may consider adding elements of cardboard, cloth, tissue paper, notebook paper, plastic pieces/strips, magazines, books, greeting cards, newspaper —anything that adds to the design and aesthetic. Exploring the possibilities of creating emotional appeal to your artwork can be very eye-opening. My teaching style is to encourage engagement between students and instructor, as well as with other students. I want students to succeed on their artistic journey by gaining insight and knowledge. I provide demos, inspiration, and active involvement in my student’s expression while offering guidance and direction.

  • You need to be dressed appropriately with closed-toed shoes and an apron.

  • For the first class, bring only one large canvas (either 24” x 36” or 24” x 48”) and one 11” x 14” canvas.

You can purchase either one of these sizes of canvas: 24” x 36” or 24” x 48”

    Pack of 11” x 14” canvases

Keep in mind, you may need more canvases depending on how you work, but I recommend purchasing at least two of the larger canvases, along with the pack of 11” x 14” canvases.

I highly recommend using Golden acrylic paints (high flow, fluids or heavy body or a combination). This brand has a high pigment load, and I strongly recommend that you purchase a lot of white. The color choice is yours, but I would begin with just a few options (I recommend that you purchase some Golden heavy body and some Golden fluid paints, so you can see the difference between the two). After the first class, you may decide on other colors you would like to purchase. You may also use other brands of your choice but I recommend Golden, or Amsterdam. You can also try Holbein, Daler & Rowney, Winsor & Newton, Grumbacher, and many more (this is not an extensive list, just suggestions).

You may also want to use sponges, or other materials you want to experiment with for creating texture.
