Finding Your Voice In Abstracts
Workshops | Available
Immerse yourself in the wonderful world of abstract composition, color and process in this three day workshop. Starting with a photo reference, we’ll travel down a path from blank canvas to finished piece in a variety of steps that allow you to not only enjoy the journey but also make it your own. We’ll be using primarily oils in this class, but the concepts and discoveries will lend themselves beautifully to all mediums. If you are new to oils, have no fear, you are going to fall head over heels with their buttery deliciousness and the ability to build saturation through sheer layers. We’ll learn some rules, break a few and probably dance a little. Whether you are an enthusiastic beginner, a dedicated tweener or an established painter, this class will help you confidently create art that is very much YOU.
Your favorite oils or a starter set of 12 or 24 oils
Tube of Titanium White (Winsor Newton Artists’ Series is a nice brand)
Favorite brushes including a nice fluffy round mop brush and a 3 inch hake
3-5 canvases 24x24s, 16x20s, 18x18s are all good sizes for this workshop
Sketching materials (you can be super informal with this)
Photo references (travel photos are always fun-print or reference on phone, it’s up to you!)
Palette material for mixing, the paper type is fine.
Palette knives for mixing
*Please bring no mediums/turpentine, etc. Due to various sensitivities, I will be keeping that minimal and supplying what is needed for the class.
**If you would like this class to serve as your carte blanche to spend to your heart’s content on oil paints and supplies, I will not stand in the way of your happy shopping! However, if you desire to come in light with a few canvases and share paint from my vast supply, that is perfectly fine too.

Wendy Franklin
Wendy Franklin was born in 1971 in Lebanon, Ohio. She pursued art in some form, with much passion all of her life but became convinced after a brutal string of all nighters to switch her major from art to teaching, graduating with the Oh So Practical Degree in Education in 1995 from Ball State University. In the winding path of life, she never taught and instead routinely, happily pulls all nighters meeting deadlines. She resides in Indianapolis, Indiana working from a sunny studio in what was once a car factory. Her work is in private and corporate collections across the country and is well represented in several galleries.
