Express Yourself In Color: Fun With Abstract Art
Workshops | Available
Jumpstart your creativity! This workshop is your gateway into the world of abstract painting, designed specifically for those taking their very first artistic steps. We’ll leave perfection at the door and focus on exploration and intuition. Forget the rules & embrace the fun! We’ll throw out the textbook and show you how to use color, design, and composition to create one-of-a-kind art. Embrace the joy of experimentation! We’ll ditch the intimidation factor and replace it with a sense of creative freedom. By the end of this workshop, you’ll walk away with a collection of small, finished abstract paintings, ready to transform your space into a personalized art gallery.
- We'll break mid-day for lunch, so bring a bagged lunch or there are close cafe's to pick up food.
Paint
My top pick is a brand sold directly to consumers out of California call NOVA Color. You will not find this in any art store. Many artist love these paints including myself. They are reasonably priced and heavily pigmented. They offer a start kit for $53.41 + shipping. This acrylic paint starter set includes 9 essential, highly-pigmented acrylic paints in generous 4oz jars:
Indian Yellow #106, Pyrrole Red #187, Ultramarine Blue #122, Medium Violet #186, Medium Green #182, Carbon Black #109, Titanium White #118, Burnt Sienna #100, Hansa Yellow #107
You might consider adding in a couple of 4oz your favorite colors to this mix- my favorites include Blue Green #142 & Hot Pink #136
You might like more Titanium White as we use that a lot for mixing (you can never have too much white paint!)
Another option for paint supplies is Michaels, look for Liquitex Basics - try to find similar colors as above and/or add in some of your favorites.
Hobby Lobby Brand Master’s Touch in 4 oz tubes. They offers a paint sale every month for 40% off.
Canvas
At least 6 (3 per day- more is OK) Bundled packs of canvas that Michaels offers is a great place to start. I like starting with a square shape for abstract - but bring what you have or what you love. I would suggest sizes at least 14x 14 or 20x20
Mediums
Soft Gel Gloss - any brand, small amount
Brushes
Grab a variety pack of brushes - flats and rounds - they do not need to be fancy.
Other items
Pencils, acrylic makers, charcoal, crayons - anything you might already have for mark making
2 small palette knives for mixing paint
Small Water Bucket
Paper towels or rags
Palette Paper or tray for mixing paints

For as long as I can remember I’ve been creating art. Drawing anything and everything; finding inspiration from the world around me. I love to observe the color and shape of a landscape, the complexities of a face, or even the simplest pattern found in nature. These are the elements that spark my interest and express themselves in my art, synthesizing my thoughts and emotions. This process is always changing and an endless source of inspiration as I observe, meditate and express.
I studied Graphic Design and spent many years working in a corporate setting, creating all day for someone else. I loved my job – but pushing paint on a canvas and creating for myself was much more rewarding. Making that transition to a full-time artist has been amazing! And, having been recognized with many “Best in Show” awards, I am truly grateful for this artist’s life! I hope you enjoy my art as much as I enjoy creating the works, and if you would, follow my journey on Instagram to keep up with the latest from my studio!
