Figure Drawing Intensive
Workshops | Available
In this two-day workshop, students will approach figure drawing from a live, nude model with a strong focus on gesture, conveying volume, and anatomy. Those three tenets--gesture, volume, and anatomy--are integral to creating a drawing which reads sculpturally and three-dimensionally, adding life, movement, and believability to draftsmanship. Forays into art history will be included to provide examples of both Old Masters and contemporary realist artists who excel at depicting the figure. As this workshop builds upon already-established drawing fundamentals, such as concepts of line, light, shadow, and proportion, intermediate and advanced students who are already familiar with figure drawing are best suited to this workshop. Each day of the workshop begins with a demonstration, then moves into quick pose warmups, and then moves into a long pose for the remainder of that day. The goal of this workshop is not to create one pretty, highly-finished drawing, but rather to produce sketches which problem solve and explore the concepts outlined above.
- A cash sitting fee will be payable to the live model on the first day, based on the number of students enrolled.
