Pochoir: Print Like Matisse!
Workshops | Available
Learn about the printing technique known as “pochoir” or stenciling. This technique was made famous by Henri Matisse and appears most prominently in his artist’s book titled Jazz from 1947. Pochoir is a fun method of printing without equipment and can even be done on three-dimensional surfaces! We will begin by discussing the best materials and techniques for creating simple cut-out stencils like Matisse’s iconic shapes. Participants will create their own images by cutting new stencils, using existing stencils, adapting everyday objects into stencils, and experimenting with various inking techniques. We will discuss color theory and color mixing techniques and participants will be encouraged to play around!
