Botanical Watercolors From Photos

Workshops | Available

Create a unique watercolor piece using a photo. Learn to explore composition and identify a good photo, edit & enhance it on your phone, develop a sketch without needing strong drawing skills, and use drawing gum to retain white space and create sharp lines. We’ll practice painting and color mixing techniques to create values, light, shadow, contrast, texture, and dimension. Students will be given two choices of photos taken from local gardens to work from to create the finished piece. Painting demonstrations will be provided and there will be instructor one-on-one time for assistance, questions, and feedback if desired. Michelle will have a few watercolor paintings from her photos on hand as examples of this process.

  • Please bring a bag lunch from home for a 30 minute lunch break we'll take mid-day. There are picnic tables in the park. You may also pick up a take out meal from a cafe/restaurant on nearby 5th Ave.

  • **Those students choosing to work on a different image other than the ones provided by the instructor are responsible for bringing photos.
Rocheleau, Michelle
Michelle Rocheleau

A resident of Naples, Florida, Michelle Rocheleau is a life-long artist. After completing comprehensive studio art programs at Algonquin College and Rivier University that included drawing, painting, sculpture, print-making, ceramics, and fiber arts, Michelle has chosen watercolor painting as her current medium. She loves to explore light and shadow and working in bright, bold colors.

Greatly inspired by the beauty of the flora and fauna found locally. Michelle works to capture that beauty in order to discover and re-create the designs, patterns, colors and textures that are found. Her goal is to challenge herself and the viewer to look thoughtfully and to enjoy the intricacies, and beauty that our natural world offers.

Michelle is a member of the Florida Watercolor Society and the Art Council of Southwest Florida. Her work is on exhibit at the Coco Gallery in Naples, the Naples Institute of Fine Art, and Marco Island Center for the Arts.
