Pour Painting: Dutch Technique & Swiping

Adult Classes | Available

This class focuses on the Dutch pouring and swiping methods for your pour pieces. Instructional demonstrations will be provided so students understand how to blow out a pour, the different ways in which you can manipulate it, and the different ways to swipe your pour pieces. Class will also focus on the importance of color choice and how to create blooms and webbing in your pour pieces.

  • $85 supply fee due to instructor at first class for specialty materials

Wooden canvases are better for pouring than cotton canvases—purchase at least 6 canvases—I recommend any of these sizes: 9” x 12” or 11” x 14.” Michaels online sells these two sizes in a pack of six.

Please keep in mind, you may need more canvases depending on how you work. I recommend purchasing wooden canvases online. They are more expensive, but they are also sturdier than cotton canvases (cotton canvases can sag).

    Hair dryer

    Extension cord

    Paper towels

Painter’s tape—either frog tape or the blue painter’s tape works best.

Acrylic paints—begin with a few tubes of Master’s Touch paint, colors are your choice. You will use white more than any other color, so purchase a few tubes of white. I will go over paint brands in the first class, so you understand the importance.

I recommend only purchasing a few colors of paints for the first class. After the first class, you can then decide what other colors and brands you would like to purchase.

You can purchase these items at: Michaels & Michaels online, Jerry’s Artarama (online), Dick Blick (online), Jackson’s (online), Holbein Artist Materials (online), and many other retailers.
