Mastering Pottery Glazing
Adult Classes | Available
For the hand building or wheel throwing student who wants to master their glazing techniques and become more confident in the glaze lab. This hands-on workshop starts with the proper prep work before the application of glaze by dipping, pouring and brushing. We’ll start with the importance of getting the correct thickness of glaze materials used for each application method. We’ll also go over how to layer combinations of different glazes together, as well as the use of wax to isolate areas of the piece in the glazing process. Students are encouraged to bring up to 4 clean, bisqued pieces to work on during workshop. Cone 5/6 glazes will be used.

Using a variety of techniques in clay, my objective is to produce pieces for utilitarian purposes that convey a sense of tradition while allowing new concepts and ideas to develop. I get inspiration from the natural environment, creating designs for the home and kitchen that are pleasing both visually and tactilely. My teaching style is to observe each student and assess their individual needs in perfecting our craft. With a BS in Ceramics, Penn State University, I spend my days working in my pottery studio, using the Florida sun to hasten drying while fresh pieces await their first firing!
