Led by internationally recognized designer & artisan Miodrag Guberinic, this immersive workshop introduces students to the world of wearable art where we join fashion, sculpture, and performance collide. Teens will explore how bold ideas become buildable designs. Through professional case studies, guided sketching, collage, and design breakdowns, students will learn how artists move from abstract inspiration to structured, wearable forms. The session balances creative freedom with technical thinking, empowering students to develop their own original concepts while understanding real-world strategies. Miodrag Guberinic

Miodrag Guberinic is a New York–based costume designer and artisan, and the founder of Mio Design NYC, a studio in Manhattan’s Garment District focused on wearable art and sculptural costume. His work bridges visual storytelling and technical construction, combining traditional craftsmanship with advanced fabrication methods such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and digital sculpting. His practice spans large-scale theater, film, television, and fashion productions. Broadway credits include Wicked, The Lion King, Moulin Rouge, Hamilton, Death Becomes Her, Cabaret, Gypsy, Funny Girl, and Frozen, among others. His film and television work includes projects such as West Side Story, Wednesday, and Ms. Marvel. His designs have appeared in major performance and fashion contexts, including the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and the Met Gala, and have been worn by performers and celebrities including Madonna, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Scarlett Johansson, and Jolin Tsai. He has also designed three productions with Cirque du Soleil.
Mio’s studio work often involves complex engineering, mixed-media fabrication, and close collaboration with creative teams. In addition to entertainment projects, he has created work for editorial, retail, and brand clients including Swarovski, Estée Lauder, Shiseido, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Tiffany & Co., Bloomingdale’s, and Prada. He has collaborated with designers such as Paul Tazewell, Gregg Barnes, Ann Roth, Arianne Phillips, Colleen Atwood, and Michael Wilkinson. Alongside his studio practice, Mio regularly works with students as a visiting lecturer and guest designer. His teaching emphasizes process-driven experimentation, material research, and hands-on making, integrating traditional techniques with new technologies. His workshops encourage curiosity and exploration, helping students translate ideas into wearable form.
