Dmitri Wright
Dmitri Wright is an academy-trained Impressionist painter, educator, and originator of Transcendent Impressionism, a contemporary extension of the tradition that unites observation, expression, and meaning. A first-in-class graduate of the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts, he continued his studies at The Cooper Union in New York, where he trained under renowned artists including Will Barnet and Wolf Kahn. He was awarded the prestigious Max Beckmann Scholarship at the Brooklyn Museum Art School and later served as an instructor, continuing the lineage of academic training.
Wright’s work and teaching are rooted in a deep engagement with the history of Impressionism and its evolution into contemporary practice. His Tree of Impressionism framework guides artists from Natural Impressionism through Post-Impressionism to his own Transcendent Impressionism—where painting becomes a unified act of perception, imagination, and spirit.
He has exhibited and taught at leading institutions including the Florence Griswold Museum, Weir Farm National Historical Park, Silvermine Arts Center, and the New Canaan Library. Known for his distinctive blend of classical training and contemporary insight, Wright’s teaching emphasizes both the science and poetry of painting—guiding students toward technical mastery, personal vision, and a deeper understanding of the artistic process.
