Pour Painting
Adult Classes | Available
Get ready to explore this fun medium where creations can be quite mind-blowing! Weekly demonstrations will show the basics of pour techniques, like dirty pour, flip cup pour, Dutch pour, creating blooms, and swiping. This class will be inspiring, helping you discover the beauty of a pouring medium. You do not need any prior art knowledge, as this can be a freeing experience into abstract expressionism where pouring can lead to fascinating and surprising end results.

You need to be dressed appropriately with closed-toed shoes and an apron as this is a messy process.
Wooden canvases are better for pouring than cotton canvases—purchase at least 12 canvases—I recommend any of these sizes: 9” x 12”, 12” x 12” or 11” x 14.”
Please keep in mind that you may need more canvases depending on how you work.
For the first class, bring 2-3 canvases, and other materials listed below.
Hair dryer
Extension cord
Paper towels
Painter’s tape
Acrylic paints
You will use a lot of white, so you may want to purchase Artist’s Loft brand in the large one-quart container, which is inexpensive. Also purchase black paint, and a variety of other colors. The brand of paint does impact the piece, so I recommend using: Golden (high flow, fluids or heavy body), Master’s Touch, Amsterdam, Deco Art Americana Décor Metallics, and many more (this is not an extensive list, just suggestions).
I recommend only purchasing a few colors of paints for the first class. After the first class, you can then decide what other colors and brands you would like to purchase.
You can purchase these items at: Michaels, Jerry’s Artarama (online), Dick Blick (online), Jackson’s (online), Holbein Artist Materials (online), and many other retailers.
