Master the basics of watercolor landscape painting & develop your personal style. Watercolor’s unpredictability and unique mark-making characteristics can be challenging, but you will learn to anticipate how the paint will react and gain confidence in the skills and techniques required to create a successful painting full of depth, value, and color. Students will learn how to paint the most common elements that make up a classic landscape painting, including water, sky, vegetation and textures like wood and stone. There will be plenty of demonstrations and discussions to guide you through the painting process.

  • Some students may already have supplies they have been working with. If that is the case, feel free to bring the supplies you have currently.
  • If you are a beginner, there are a few items that you will need. Here is a suggested supply list:
  • A working palette with a lid (with preformed wells in which to squeeze your tubes of watercolor paint)
  • Good, high quality watercolor brushes. Students will require at least a size 6 round, size 10 round, and a ¾ inch flat.
  • A cold pressed watercolor paper block approximately 12”x16”. I prefer the Arches brand but Fabiano, Strathmore, Cotman, and Canson are all good brands.
  • Tubes of watercolors. The following brands are among those I recommend: Winsor-Newton, Cotman, DaVinci, Holbein, and Grumbacher. Please consider getting the following colors:
  • -(yellows): lemon yellow, aureolin, quinacridone gold
  • -(reds): rose madder genuine, permanent alizarin crimson, cadmium red light
  • -(blues): Cerulean, ultramarine blue, phthalo blue
  • -(earth tones): yellow ochre, burnt sienna, burnt umber
  • -(greens): sap green, hookers green light, phthalo green
  • -(darks): payne’s gray
  • -NO white, NO black
  • Roll of paper towels
  • Drawing pencils
  • Eraser
  • Small spray bottle
  • Water container
  • Small sketch pad
Kuzminsky, Tracy

Tracy V. Kuzminsky is native to New England, but her path has brought her throughout the nation. Currently, she resides in Florida and Georgia. Tracy's undergraduate work was completed at Rhode Island College. Her studies were multifaceted, with pottery and three dimensional clay form as the cornerstone. The nucleus of her later graduate studies at Georgia State University was painting and mixed media work. Tracy's love of the artistic process led her to become a visual arts educator, which she has enjoyed for the past twenty years with great accomplishment. She has often been recognized in her field and was even awarded Georgia Art Teacher of the Year in 2012 by the Georgia Art Education Association. Tracy is now focusing more of her time and energy into her own art but she continues to enjoy teaching both youth and adult classes at Naples Art in Naples, Florida. Tracy's diverse studies, commitment to excellence, and exposure to multiple regions inspire exciting collections that explore varied media and subjects.
