Master the art of representational watercolor painting that begins with a thumbnail sketch, and brings bold color and line expression to your finished piece. Students will be given an introduction to this technique, as well as suggestions & tips to create a monochromatic painting. Our work will progress to painting with a full color palette and creating a painting using permanent ink pens and watercolor washes. There will be plenty of discussions, demonstrations, handouts and critiques to further each student’s skill set.

  • Students should have some watercolor experience to take this class.
  • Due to the instructor's need to make travel arrangements, if the minimum enrollment has not been met by Friday, January 24, the workshop will be cancelled.

  • #16 Round Brush
  • #12 Round Brush
  • #8 Round Brush
  • #6 Rigger
  • Beveled brush end for scrapping, moving paint, etc.
  • Paints 2 Water Containers
  • Cadmium Scarlet 1 for rinsing water
  • Permanent Rose 1 for clean water
  • Cadmium Yellow Light
  • Cadmium Lemon #2 Pencil
  • Cerulean Blue Kneaded Eraser
  • Ultra Marine Blue, French Salt shaker with salt
  • Yellow Ochre Roll of Toilet Paper/paper towels
  • Raw Sienna Small towel/optional
  • Burnt Sienna Masking tape
  • Plastic Palette
  • To hold paint and mixing
  • (Minimum of 12 wells for individual paints)
  • Water Spray Bottle
  • Paper
  • Arches 140# 11x15 Fabriano
  • Plywood or Plexiglass to hold paper
  • Permanent Ink Pens
  • Black Fine Point Sharpie
  • Black Super Fine Point Sharpie
  • Last but not least, ENTHUSIAM !!! (you should be tired after class)
