Pastel is one of the most versatile of all painting mediums and allows for many corrections and layers to build up to beautiful paintings. It is the perfect medium to learn about the importance of getting the colors, values and big shapes correct in your paintings. It is a very forgiving medium if one proceeds properly, and corrections can be made easily along the way. There will be demonstrations and exercises focusing on using big shapes to design a successful composition, learning about values and colors, using light and shadow. What is it that intrigues you about a particular scene and makes you want to paint it? Students will do preliminary sketches to understand the use of values and shapes, and then they will do one or two landscape paintings from their own photographs. There will be plenty of personal attention given to each student.
