I believe that we are all artists and have a unique creative vision to express. Finding this unique expression through a process of exploration and artistic play is the foundation of this workshop. We’ll begin with expression rather than technique. We’ll explore intuition first, our personal expression, not the one we wish we had or the one we think we should have, but the one we were born with. We’ll explore our personal mark, through small and large, hand and body gestures on a variety of surfaces. We’ll use oil pastels, and other tools to begin to know our scribbles, our doodles and the flow of our artistic expression. Then, we’ll develop and aid its direction through the creation of a mixed media image on canvas. Mixed media provides a platform for artists of all levels. It can provide stress relief for beginning artists because you are encouraged to think freely—outside of the box, and to blend your interests into an often-surprising third outcome. For experienced artists, it helps them to think like a beginning artist again. Throw away some prior knowledge to rediscover and experience anew. We will play with paint, decorative papers and acrylic markers to create rich, expressive images.

  • Deadline to register is end of business day on Wednesday, January 6th.
  • All materials included with supply fee payable to instructor.
Keckler, Jeanne

Jeanne Keckler was born in Michigan, and grew up near the beaches of Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. Spending summers swimming and sailing in these beautiful lakes left her with a love for living near the water. Now living in Seattle near Lake Washington she has acquired a love for painting water images and heron. Jeanne began to take an interest in painting her first year of college when she took a painting class, as a lark, with a friend. That class changed her life forever. She started spending her evenings at the college library studying every art book they had and her days were spent in the art studio painting. Her instructors were impressed with her expressive style. She was encouraged to take more art classes and pursue a career in art. From here she studied art at Kalamazoo College and the University of Michigan. After marrying and having two children she began offering portrait painting of children to friends and family. She started to create a following for her commissioned paintings over the past 40 years. She has paintings that have been purchased for hotels, hospitals, and private collections throughout the Northwest. She displays her artwork in galleries, restaurants, art walks and juried art shows. Jeanne has also trained as a teacher, and loves working with children and adults to give voice to their artistic expression.
