Have you been interested in trying a new painting process but have been afraid to learn? This workshop is about using the batik (Indonesian style wax resist painting) and rozome (Japanese style batik) wax and dye painting processes to create unique artwork on fabric that can be used on everyday household objects, clothing or works of art! Play with tjaps (Indonesian printing blocks), tjanting tools, brushes, and other waxing techniques so that you have a variety of tools to create artwork that is uniquely yours. We will work with environmental friendly soy/beeswax and acid dyes for vivid colors. Good for silk painters, fiber artists and artists who would like to work in fiber so they can add new techniques and ideas to their toolkit.

  • Due to the ordering of supplies, if minimum enrollment hasn't been met by December 31st, the workshop will be cancelled.
  • $50 supply fee due to instructor on first day for all materials.
Gill, Muffy Clark

Muffy Clark Gill has been creating art since she was a young child. The pivotal moment in her life came during a visit to Kampala, Uganda, East Africa when she was in high school. She was taken to an art gallery by a friend and introduced to an exhibition featuring art created in the wax and dye resist painting process known as batik. Getting hooked on the results, she returned to the US to experiment with this unique art form. Muffy attended Morris County, N.J. Vocational/Technical School where she studied Commercial Art. She augmented those skills by attending Boston University and studied Graphic Design and Marketing. Over the years she has won numerous state and national awards and have been featured in both international and local publications in print and online. Muffy’s love of travel and curiosity about cultures has taken her to many places around the world including: Myanmar, Indonesia, Cuba, Alaska, Singapore, Korea, the Caribbean, and a 17 day stay in Japan where she learned the processes of indigo dying, shibori resist, and katazome stenciling. These trips have provided a great resource library from which to create her artwork. Naples, Florida has been her home for over 35 years.
