This class is designed to use a block of clay that will be molded using mostly your hands and some sculpting tools. Our focus will be on learning how to push and pull the clay into different shapes and forms. The object is to create an abstract piece that represents emotion. This artwork is meant to be air-dried, with no firing needed.

  • This class is VIRTUAL. Students will be emailed a link to join the class live prior to its start.
  • Please keep in mind, it will take a long time for your piece to dry, well beyond the class time, so your piece will need to stay in a stationary place where it’s out of harm’s way.
  • One block of Hugo grey clay (Ceramic Moist Clay)
  • *I like Sculpture House
  • Water container
  • Rags for wiping
  • Sponges (smaller size)
  • A few sculpting tools (you do need a variety of tools)—you can order a basic set or pick one up at an art store
  • * a double wire end modeling tool--a few different ones, some are looped or have edges, loop scraper, steel spatula, steel detailing tool
  • A plate or board that your clay block will sit on for the duration of the drying time of your piece,
  • Plastic to cover the piece (you can use a plastic bag)
  • If you complete your piece prior to the end of class, you may want to have another clay block on hand for a 2nd project.
