A fun class for getting paint out of the tube and onto the canvas. Create and experiment with shape, form and color. You will learn how to apply color, paint your passions and discover what talent lies within you while exploring the versatility of acrylic paints. Learn the fundamentals of color and composition. Develop your personal style. Please bring several images/ideas and sketches to paint in the first class.

  • This class is VIRTUAL. Students will be emailed a link to join the class live prior to its start.
  • Easel
  • One gessoed white canvas (try Michaels) 20x30

  • Tape to hang your inspiration on something close to your canvas
  • Roll of Reynolds Freezer Paper
  • Charcoal to sketch image on canvas
  • One quart Liquitex glazing medium (not gel medium)
  • Every brush you own that you want to use with acrylic paint - you will at least need a natural, not synthetic pig bristle brush
  • Beginner Acrylic painters use nylon brushes. Buy sets that are labeled for the medium you want to use.
  • A small sketchbook or notebook is nice to make notes and sketches.
  • Rag to wipe brushes
  • PAINTS

  • mars black
  • french ultramarine blue
  • thalo blue or pthalo blue - green shade

  • If you are a beginner, you may want to begin with a “set” of oil acrylics that are usually sold in smaller tubes of 12, 18, or 24 to a set and then add to your collection of colors as you progress.
  • I recommend Liquitex, Golden or Utrecht- they all make clear colors. You may bring any other colors that you have also. I recommend shopping at Blick or Michaels in the art supply area. Do not get the basic stuff.
