Eco-printing or direct contact printing is a process of embedding botanical materials and metal “stamps” directly into fabric or paper. Working with natural elements such as leaves, blossoms, berries, flower petals, produce, bark and found metal, participants will learn how to arrange a design with the natural material and dye textiles & paper. The “images” and color that will be embodied within the piece will reflect the actual dye color released from the plant material and metal objects. The class will begin with an introduction to the process and a review of botanical dye colors. Once students have a full understanding of the steps involved and an ample collection of plant material and metal, they will be guided through the natural dyeing process using no chemicals or additives. Participants will come away with hand dyed paper and textiles. No experience necessary.

  • A supply fee of $15 is due to the instructor on the first day for some specialty materials.

  • This is a list of materials that can be gathered prior to class from your garden or community. Bring what you feel will be interesting to experiment with and to share with class. Items marked with * are strongly suggested due to their proven success in providing strong prints and color:

Printmaking has not only introduced me to some of the most interesting courageous artists, it has helped me to open up my creative world to techniques and results I would not have achieved otherwise. I studied Fine Arts at Bucks County Community College with an emphasis on Printmaking. Inspired printmaking requires ongoing learning & diligent attention to changing techniques. Recently I had the privilege of participating in two workshops in non-toxic monotypes led by distinguished printmaker Ron Prokrasso. I studied with Master Printmaker Susan Rostow, founder of Akua Kolor Professional Inks creating monotypes & Dan Weldon using polymer copper plates for intaglio printmaking. I have worked closed with Master Printmaker Sheila Goloborotka. Woodcut, monotype & collagraph methods of printmaking have always been my main creative tools. They are non-toxic & are highly compatible with water based inks and I am sensitive to how we treat our environment. In 2014 I was asked to fill in for someone at the Arts Council of Princeton to teach an Eco-Printing week long camp. After having fallen in love with this process my daughter, Cristin Riccardo, and I now offer our fiber art for purchase & workshops in the area. My husband & I live in Bucks County Pennsylvania where I am inspired by the beautiful landscape filled with peaceful forests & graceful waterways. I am a member of the Artists of Yardley, an active group of artists who educate, exhibit, inspire and create within the community.
