This pastel workshop was created to help artists gain insightful knowledge to broaden their art skills and think like a master painter! Learn many of the tips and techniques of composing and designing your painting. Working with shapes, values, edges, color, and mark making, Nancy helps teach and guide her students to edit, simplify, and interpret the scene to tell a story and create that emotional response in the viewer that all artists seek. With heavy emphasis on the foundations of painting, learn how to work quickly and efficiently, to not get bogged down by detail and stay loose. If you are new to pastel painting or want to take your skills to the next level, this class is geared towards you. Nancy’s demos will include discussion on materials, picking a photo reference and how to composition it for optimum design. She will cover the usefulness of value studies, the power of color temperatures and color harmony, importance of simplifying, massing, various underpainting techniques, and discussion on what makes a successful painting.
