Embark on an unforgettable journey through the heart of Florida’s unique ecosystem with OLLI at FIU’s Everglades Tour. Our adventure, led by Cesar Becerra, begins with departure from our BBC campus in North Miami.
As we make our way onto the iconic Tamiami Trail, our first stop will be at the Miccosukee Hotel. Here, you will have the opportunity to explore a display of historic images that offer a glimpse into the rich heritage of the Miccosukee Tribe and their connection to the Everglades.
Continuing along the trail, we will pass through the intriguing locales of Cooper’s Town and 40 Mile Bend, each with its own tale to tell. Our next highlight is a visit to the renowned Clyde Butcher Gallery. Known for his stunning black-and-white photography, Butcher captures the raw beauty of the Everglades like no other. You will also enjoy a short loop trail alongside the swamp, providing a closer look at the flora and fauna that make this region so special.
On our return journey, we will make a final stop at the Dade County Jet Port Center, a site steeped in aviation history and its ties to the surrounding environment.
