Period, or historical films have long been a mainstay of World Cinema. Through narrative stories, some based on true events, each of the four award-winning films in this session reflect their time periods through the highest degrees of production and performance values.
Tuesday, January 14 - Kidnapped: The Abduction of Edgardo Mortara – Italy -2023 – 130 Min.
An historical drama based on a true story. Set in 1850s Italy, the film follows the life of a young Jewish boy named Edgardo Mortara. Several years after a family servant secretly baptizes Edgardo as an infant, this act sparks a crisis when the Church takes Edgardo from his family, claiming he must be raised Catholic. The film explores the ensuing struggle as Edgardo’s parents fight for his return while the boy grapples with his own identity.
