Godspeed, John Glenn

A genuine American hero of the 20th century, air combat ace, NASA astronaut and U.S. Senator, John Glenn’s three orbits around the earth in 1962 brought the Soviet Union’s early space race dominance to a halt. Glenn’s heroic flight gave new impetus to President Kennedy’s vision of putting men on the moon by decade’s end and gave needed confidence to a nation caught in a global cold war. Join Professor Mark Goldstein for a discussion of Glenn’s incredible career and legacy from an inside vantage – Goldstein worked with Glenn every day for six years during part of his four terms in the U.S. Senate. Part humor and anecdotal, part historical and political, Goldstein gives a candid view of the man NASA called an American legend during his second space flight at the age of 77.
