'Resilience in Action: Jewish Voices Today' is a not-to-be-missed OLLI at FIU lecture series that brings together Jewish leaders from every walk of life to share insights, inspiration, and strategies for sustaining community, culture, and identity in challenging times.
Our Speakers are:
-January 12 from 10.30 a.m. to 12 noon: Jon Warech
Jon Warech, Executive Director of Hillel at FIU, will join us to share how his leadership is guiding Jewish students through these challenging times. As the head of one of South Florida’s most vibrant Hillel communities, he has been on the front lines of supporting students as they navigate questions of identity, belonging, and resilience during a time of heightened uncertainty and crisis. His talk will offer a window into the lived experiences of today’s Jewish students and the vital role Hillel plays in helping them feel safe, supported, and empowered.
-February 2 from 1 pm. to 2.30 p.m.: Brian Siegal
Brian Siegal, director of the American Jewish Committee in Miami, brings his firsthand experience guiding the local Jewish community through complex challenges. In this lecture, he will explore how Miami’s Jewish leaders confront rising antisemitism, strengthen communal bonds, and navigate Israel–Diaspora relations. Drawing from his work on the ground, Siegal offers insight into the courage and conscience required to lead in today’s world.
-March 2 from 1 pm. to 2.30 p.m.: Idan Peysachovich
For nearly two decades, Idan Peysachovich played a central role at the Jewish Agency in Israel, overseeing critical operations and facilitating the Aliyah of countless individuals to Israel. In this lecture, he shares his firsthand experiences navigating the challenges, triumphs, and transformative moments that have shaped modern Jewish life. Join Idan for an insider’s perspective on the people, missions, and stories that define one of Israel’s most pivotal institutions.
-March 16 from 1 pm. to 2.30 p.m.: Galina Vromen
When Galina Vromen brought PJ Library to Israel, she launched not only a Hebrew edition (Sifriyat Pijama) but also the world’s largest Arabic book program (Maktabat al-Fanoos). Together, these award-winning initiatives have distributed millions of books, fostering literacy and connection across cultures. Join us as Galina shares the challenges and insights of adapting PJ Library to Israel.
-April 13 from 1 pm. to 2.30 p.m.: Arnie Samlan
Rabbi Arnie Samlan, Executive Director of Jewish Learning for the Jewish Federation of Broward County, brings more than four decades of experience as an educator, innovator, and communal leader. In this personal and thought-provoking talk, he reflects on the lessons of a lifetime devoted to Jewish education and service, while offering insights into the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for Jewish life in America and beyond.
