Q&A with Professionals #1 - Norma Orovitz

Virtual Activity | This class is completed

This session will feature a professional who will share their experiences and knowledge while opening the session for Q&A. It is part of a series designed for FIU's English Language Institute. This week's host will be Norma Orovitz.

Native New Yorker and longtime Miamian, Norma Orovitz moved to South Florida in 1961 and, after two-student-stints and with three little daughters in tow, was graduated in 1975 from the University of Miami. Her initial career was as a journalist for The Jewish Floridian and The Miami News, both now defunct. She is the author/co-author of three books, and ultimately served as the Floridian’s final managing editor. A dozen years retired after nearly two decades at the Miami Jewish Home and Hospital (now Miami Jewish Health), she served in her second career as Senior Director of Development, overseeing community outreach and fund-raising. Norma’s lay activities include leading South Florida’s pioneer Reform synagogue, as well as American Jewish Congress, Southeast Region, as the first female president. Notably, she established and chaired the multi-cultural Faith-in-the-City of Miami, Inc., and served as co-chair of Religious Activities for the City of Miami’s Centennial. She and her husband Michael Orovitz, a Miami-native, have been married for 57 years, and reside in Bay Harbor Islands, just north of Miami Beach. They’ve parented three adult daughters, six grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters...and both are avid OLLI students.

  • Delivered virtually via Zoom. Open to members and non-members.
