Board a Coach bus in Miami Shores or FIU's North Miami campus and attend a narrated ride through Overtown, Liberty City, and Brownsville with a stop for brunch at Red Rooster Overtown.  Highlights of the tour will include inequities created and codified by the Redline practices that were established during the 1930’s New Deal of the Roosevelt Administration. Before returning home, participants will enjoy a group brunch at Red Rooster Overtown.

  • This program is being partially funded by the Miami Shores Community Alliance grant we received.  A $25 discount for Miami Shores residents and OLLI at FIU members is being offered.

Jacqui Colyer, avid learner, historian, and community advocate was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and reared in Miami, Florida. She is deeply connected to her Liberty City referring to herself as to its daughter. Schooled in Dade County public schools, she continued her education at Winthrop University for her undergraduate degree. She completed her master’s degree at Barry University and is a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Miami in Higher Education.
