Mayer, Randy

Randy Mayer, of Atlantic Highlands, NJ, has been creating original designs in a wide variety of media for most of her life. As a child she drew anything and everything with a special passion for portraits and people. Teen idols and family members were her favorite subjects. At the age of 15, she won a scholarship to study with Lee Gaskins for a summer which was an incredible introduction to Watercolor!

After Graduation from F.I.T.,  S.U.N.Y. with a degree in Fashion Illustration
and Advertising Design, Randy pursued a career in advertising and illustration, working for various agencies and eventually freelancing.
Always a student as well as a teacher, she enjoys sharing her love of all things
creative. For years she taught classes in her studio called “The Art Room” in Rumson, and later, in Monmouth Beach. There she shared her talents in drawing, painting and sculpture.
Randy has studied with Charles Reid, Marie Natale,  Ken Stetz, Alvaro Castagnet, Scott Nickerson, Steven Assael, Ted Seth Jacobs, Roberta Carter Clark, Mel Stabin, Eudes Correia and numerous other wonderful and talented artists.
She is an Exhibiting Member of The Guild of Creative Art, in Shrewsbury, NJ, She is also a signature member of the New Jersey Watercolor Society, Garden State Watercolor Society, The Philadelphia Watercolor Society and an Elected member of the Audubon Artists.
While Watercolor painting is her favorite medium, Randy enjoys drawing, daily, from life and photos, and in addition to her many awards for watercolor, has won awards for many of her drawings and recently pastels as well.
“ I am a direct painter who loves Realism, but I really enjoy abstract touches when I work with watercolor! It’s so much fun to paint outside the lines and splash and play.” Most of her work has a little wit or humor -something to spark joy!.
I am most proud of the “Fredrick Smallwood jr Memorial Award that I received from the NJWCS October of 2022, for my Watercolor painting “Ten Pipers Piping!”. And I am very proud that my drawing, “Marcia” which was awarded the David Wu and Elsie Jack-Key Memorial Award at the Allied Artists of America's 108th Annual Exhibition at the Salmagundi Club, NYC.
Also, For the Audubon Artists, 80th Annual Exhibition, of 2022, I won the Art Spirit Foundation/ Dianne Bernhard Gold medal in Pastels for my Pastel painting, “Little Miss Polka-Dot!"
