ONSITE: Lumen Prints

Explore photographic image making in a new way with lumen prints. Learn to use this analog process to create solar photograms: colorful, handmade images made with sunlight and light-sensitive darkroom paper. The process is experimental, serendipitous and playful - the results are often difficult to predict and totally beautiful. This class is great for both beginners and experienced darkroom artists.

This instructor speaks Spanish, but the class is held in English.
This is an On-site course. Students must follow current Covid-19 protocols, as outlined on our website. On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.
Em White
Raised in rural Virginia, Em White is a self-taught artist and educator. She specializes in analog photography, specifically large format film and wet plate collodion. She often works with alternative and historic processes, enjoying any opportunity for experimentation and play. When not in the darkroom, she can be found walking along the river with her three hounds or making tintypes at her analog portrait studio here in Richmond. Em has taught at VCU, the Penumbra Foundation and various arts institutions.
