The perfect class for anyone interested in a wide range of subjects from cosplay, making models as drawing reference, customizing figures, creating theatre props, costume design, and more. This class will be tailored to a project of the student's choice, guided all the way from ideating to a fully realized final product - whatever it may be! A mask? A prop book? A 1:12 scale character sculpture? Let's find out together!

  • Students should bring a digital camera and any outfits or propos they would like to use. You may use a smart phone. All other materials provided.

    This is an ONSITE course. Students are expected to adhere to our COVID-19 policies. For more info please visit visarts.org. 

    This class counts as a Special topics course in our Art League Certificate Program.

    Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.


Duffy, Melissa

Duffy (she/they) is a mestiza Filipino-American cartoonist, illustrator and printmaker based in Richmond, Virginia. They graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BFA in Communication Arts in 2012. Duffy has worked with BOOM! Studios, IDW Publishing, Richmond Magazine, AMC, and Dark Horse. Currently, she is illustrating We Walked in Clouds, a full-length graphic novel published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. She is also a practicing secular wedding celebrant through the Humanist Society. An avid rollerskater and nature enthusiast, Duffy’s work frequently touches on love, flora and fauna, magickal associations, and more than a few cats.
