Always wanted to make a comic, but didn't know where to start? This class focuses on the versatile program Procreate for the iPad, best practices for comic workflow, and how to make your ideas come together as a multi-page final piece. Come ready to drum up fresh ideas, or bring your pre-written stories! Perfect for beginners or anyone wanting structured guidance on improving their craft.


  • Students may bring their own iPad and Apple Pencil- or borrow one of ours during class time. Students may not bring our iPads home with them, though.



    Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
    This is an On-site course. Students must follow current Covid-19 protocols, as outlined on our website. On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.
Duffy, Melissa

Duffy (she/they) is a mestiza Filipino-American cartoonist, illustrator and printmaker based in Richmond, Virginia. They graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BFA in Communication Arts in 2012. Duffy has worked with BOOM! Studios, IDW Publishing, Richmond Magazine, AMC, and Dark Horse. Currently, she is illustrating We Walked in Clouds, a full-length graphic novel published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. She is also a practicing secular wedding celebrant through the Humanist Society. An avid rollerskater and nature enthusiast, Duffy’s work frequently touches on love, flora and fauna, magickal associations, and more than a few cats.
