This summer intensive is an in-depth, hands-on immersion in the practice of letterpress printing. Participants will set metal and wood type, mix custom colors of ink, learn how to operate a variety of presses, and print a group project as well as an individual project of their choice. Perfect for beginners as well as those who wish to refine and expand their letterpress skills. Participants will come away with their printed creations to keep or share. Print text-based projects such as business cards, posters, and poetry. Create unique greeting cards. Incorporate letterpress/text-based work into your creative practice through collage, book arts, etc. The possibilities are endless!

  • Participants will need to supply their own paper for their individual projects. Please wear closed-toed shoes (no sandals) for your safety. Letterpress can be a physically-demanding activity—standing for extended periods of time as well as occasional heavy lifting (cases of metal type) are part of the process. Students can sign up for multiple sessions.

This studio is not wheel chair accessible from the interior due to two steps, but is accessible through an exterior door.

Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
This is an On-site course. Students must follow current Covid-19 protocols, as outlined on our website. On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.
