Guided Studio: Alternative Firings + Surface Design

Adult Multi-Week | FULL

Learn new techniques to improve your functional and non-functional ceramic forms. Try cone 10 reduction glazes and soda firing. Learn new surface design processes using slips, underglazes, terra sigillata and the spray booth application of both underglazes and overglazes. This class is best for intermediate and advanced students with a solid foundation of the basics of ceramics who are interested in furthering their ideas.

  • Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
     
     
    You will receive 25 pounds of clay; additional clay is available for purchase. 
     
    On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.
     
Camden, David
David Camden

David’s been an active ceramics instructor, predominantly at the Visual Arts Center, for over 40 years. He studied at Goddard College in Vermont and relocated in 1977 to launch Camden Clayworks. He co-owns Cross Mill Gallery with Brad Camden and Jeremy Witt, which opened in 1971 by well known Virginia artist, Nancy Camden Witt. He’s placed best in show for ceramics/glass various times (2013, Occassion for the Arts). He has three daughters and is married to Dermatologist, Dr. Sharon Camden. He enjoys relaxing with his family and golden retriever at the beach. His hobbies include kayaking and tennis.
