Judaica in Clay (This class is only offered once a year!)
Adult Multi-Week | Available
Using simple hand-building techniques, we will construct a multi-part Seder plate, a mezuzah case, a menorah, and a pair of sabbath oil candlesticks. And of course we will make at least one dreidel out of clay.
- A previous slab-building class is requested. Al's classes are formatted so that the first 15-20 minutes is a critique of work in progress, the next hour is a demonstration, and the rest of class time is work time. Practice is expected outside of class, but not required. The materials fee includes two oil candle insets and one set of Chanukah candle holders. Additional supplies will be available for purchase.
Please bring a towel and clay tools.
You will receive 25 pounds of clay; additional clay is available for purchase.
On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.
Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
Al Pellenberg
Al has been been playing and working with mud since he was a kid, his “Play-Doh Fun Factory” was just the best toy Al ever had. Al believes he became an architect and space designer as a result of all those things that he built in my “first childhood." Over the years he have been in and out of the clay studio. He worked on the wheel for many years making bowls, cups, teapots and the lot, but the move to hand-building has been very rewarding and offering a set of challanges that combine both his architectual training and creative side in new and different ways
