Wheel Throwing Refresher (A)
Adult Multi-Week | FULL
Brush up on the basics! We'll review wheel throwing techniques and skills. Create and complete work during class, with enough time to fire and glaze. This class is open to students who have previously taken wheel throwing classes. We will review and refresh our knowledge of wedging, centering, throwing, trimming and glazing. We will take a look at various tools and how they can assist in throwing. We will also pay special attention to glazing techniques, including cone firing temperatures and how to get an excellent glaze application.
- All materials and equipment provided. This is an intermediate class, students should be able to center and throw.
Please bring a towel and clay tools.
You will receive 25 pounds of clay; additional clay is available for purchase.

Christine Orr
Christine Orr b.1993 (she/her) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Richmond, Virginia. Working in clay, fiber, paper-making and poetry, her practice critically navigates how humans have co-evolved with objects. Orr investigates material culture’s role in our understanding of domestic and utilitarian items. This research connects objects and what they are made from as well as their metaphorical and symbolic potential. Orr received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 2015. She completed her Master of Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University in the Craft/Material Studies Department in 2021.
