The Art of Lighting for Photography

Adult Intensive | Available

Explore a variety of lighting set-ups and techniques, from studio configurations to working with natural light. Through hands-on demonstrations and interactive exercises, you'll learn to sculpt light to accentuate the unique features of your subject matter, transforming ordinary images into extraordinary works of art. Discover the power of light modifiers, such as reflectors and umbrellas, as you experiment with shaping and controlling light to evoke mood and atmosphere in your images. Explore the interplay of light and shadow and explore techniques that add depth, dimension, and drama to your images. Learn to think critically about light, and begin to explore how different lighting setups can convey varying emotions and narratives within your images. This class provides a supportive environment for growth and experimentation for beginner photographers.

  • Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. VisArts values making classes accessible to everyone, and is always happy to work with students to make accommodations when possible. Please reach out to info@visarts.org with specific questions related to accessibility or accommodations.

Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.

On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.
