A: Releasing the River: An Evening of Generative Writing With Ty Phelps (Adults and youth 15+ with a registered adult)

Spend an evening writing in a low-stakes atmosphere with writer Ty Phelps! In Releasing the River, we'll raft the rapids of our memories and imaginations through generative writing prompts designed to loosen and re-energize our creative flow.
Payments for this class are non-refundable and non-transferable. In the event that you are not able to attend your class, please reach out to our front desk team so we can make your seat available to another student.
Ages below 18 are welcome, if accompanied by a ticket holding adult.
Each person participating must register separately for the class. Be sure to sign up ASAP to guarantee your spot. Some seats may be available the night of, but it is recommended that you sign up early to ensure the class runs. We will confirm or cancel classes by 5pm the Thursday before.
We do not contact waitlist participants for 2nd Fridays classes; please do not join a waitlist.

Ty Phelps
Ty Phelps’ work has appeared in Blackbird, Poets.org, Barstow and Grand, Streetlight, Zizzle, and elsewhere. He won the 2021 Nancy Ludmerer Fellowship for Flash Fiction, Virginia Commonwealth University’s 2019 Catherine and Joan Byrne Poetry Prize, and The Gravity of the Thing’s 2016 Six Word Story Contest. He holds an MA in Teaching from Lewis and Clark College and an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University where he served as VCU’s 2021-2022 Cabell First Novelist Award Fellow. He is the 2023-24 Writer in Residence at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond.
