Examine humor’s role in writing. We’ll look at various devices and styles of humor, such as parody, irony, and the surreal. Readings and writing experiments will help show you how to incorporate humor into your own writing. We’ll also focus on the relationship between humor and play in the writing process.

  • Students should bring something to write with.
Newcomb, Nathaniel

Nathaniel Newcomb teaches writing and bookmaking to elementary and middle schoolers. He also teaches ESL and grammar to adults. He graduated with a BA in English and a BS in psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University. He served in the US Army, where he decided to become a writer and writing teacher. He is currently working toward an MFA in creative writing.
