Master the handle, spout, and lid to make a clay teapot. You’ll use a wide variety of hand-building techniques and glaze applications to make sculpted pieces that push the limits of your imagination. We’ll spend time looking at historical and contemporary teapots for inspiration.

  • Prerequisite: a beginner clay class or comparable experience.
  • All materials provided.
  • A lunch break will be provided. Students are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch.
  • Please note that for weekend workshops occurring on both Saturday and Sunday: Saturday classes run from 10 AM - 4 PM, Sunday classes run from 1 - 4 PM.
Elkins, Julie

Julie Elkins has a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. She gained international attention for her porcelain sculptures exhibited at SOFA Chicago in 2003. Her work is in the permanent collections of The Mint Museum of Craft and Design, The Fuller Craft Museum, and the Kamn Teapot Foundation. She is a professor at Virginia State University, an instructor at Visual Arts Center of Richmond, and a mentoring artist at Milk River Arts. She leads many creative workshops in the community, and was the Sculptor in Residence at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Rodin exhibition. Website: www.JulieElkins.com
