Encaustic painting is an ancient method brought up to date with new equipment and materials. It combines pigment, beeswax and natural dammar resin, which hardens the paint and gives it shine. Work on your own projects or follow the step-by-step demos of this luminous flexible medium. Each of the various exercises is open-ended so that you can follow your own intuition and improvise. You’ll explore melting and fusing, create layered patterns with unique rubber stencils, embedding paper, leaf imprints and casts, then learn to create texture.

  • Instructor supplies small 4x6in test panels for testing encaustic techniques; students will purchase other necessary panels. All other equipment and materials are provided.
