On May 12th and 13th, join VisArts in welcoming seven guest artists from the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina. Each artist is a studio coordinator at Penland who will be taking over our studios and offering unique weekend workshops that bring new techniques and ideas to VisArts.

Explore the potential of paper and letterpress printing, not just as carriers of imagery, but also objects. We’ll pay special attention to the qualities and actions that transform ubiquitous materials into considered pieces. We’ll focus on different types of paper and substrate that can be used to print, as well as ways of handling uncommon substrates. We’ll also look at the actions and methods that transform printed works on paper into ephemera and objects. Plan to collage, manipulate and collaborate to make new pieces.

  • Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
