Explore the basics of clay. We’ll cover the proper use of studio tools, equipment and materials. You’ll learn about slab construction, coil building and combined techniques. We’ll also demonstrate wheel throwing and discuss how various clays and glazes respond to each other.

  • All materials and equipment provided.
  • You will receive 25 pounds of clay; additional clay is available for purchase.
  • Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
McCarty, Claire

Claire McCarty is a working artist and professional arts educator. She earned her undergraduate degree from VCUarts program (Art Education and Craft/Material Studies) and her master's degree from Vermont College of Fine Arts (Art and Design Education). She now teaches at the Visual Arts Center and St. Catherine's School, specializing in ceramics and film photography. Claire enjoys teaching, working with, and learning from students and peers and appreciates that everyone offers a different perspective and tests the possibilities of what art can be.
