Explore the hectograph printing process, a method developed in the mid–19th century as a means of duplicating documents. While its original function served to make multiples, hectograph printing has recently resurfaced as a means of making unique prints. We’ll cover aspects of this process by utilizing a homemade gelatin plate to create monoprints without a press and photocopies without a Xerox machine. We’ll also cover historical uses of the process, using hectograph pencils to create a reproducible image, and contemporary uses of the process, using acrylic paint to create monoprints.
