Learn how to make your own paper out of locally sourced plant material such as cotton, bamboo, corn silk, yucca, flax and other bast fibers. As we create, we’ll talk about the history, craft and art of papermaking. What does “rag paper” really mean and exactly what is abaca? We’ll learn to cook the fiber while paying attention to its pH in order to produce archival paper that you can take home to use in your other art projects, from book making to letter writing. You’ll have a chance to decorate your pages by implanting colored silk, pressed flowers and even other colored papers. You’ll learn to create watermarks and size your paper in order to write, draw or paint on it. We may even have time to make some ink.

  • All basic materials provided.
  • Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
