Transform your furniture from trash to treasure. You’ll learn nine paint techniques including distressing, antiquing and applying metallic finishes. We’ll go over the differences between chalk, milk and latex paint and discuss how to select the best furniture pieces and make minor repairs. You’ll learn to paint and protect your finished product. We’ll practice on wood tiles and work together to refinish a chair.

  • A lunch break will be provided. Students are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch. Please note that for weekend workshops occurring on both Saturday and Sunday: Saturday classes run from 10 AM – 4 PM, Sunday classes run from 1 – 4 PM.
  • Please note: Due to a small set of stairs, this is the only studio in our facility that is not handicap accessible.
  • Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.

Karen’s painted furniture pieces are featured at several Richmond area stores and she chronicles her before and after furniture projects at darlingoctopus.com. She uses her love of color and pattern to transform vintage furniture and house ware finds. DIY comes naturally to her and she is always looking for a new challenge. When she is not in the studio you will find her haunting the fleas markets and thrift stores of Richmond. Her goal, taking unloved things and making them pretty.
