Learn how a digital camera works, how to import photos to computers and how to use Photoshop to edit. Enjoy demonstrations, hands-on practice and detailed overviews on composition and creative decision making.

  • Artventure classes are confirmed two weeks in advance. Students can bring their own cameras or use one from VisArts for the week!
Fowler, Kate

Kate Elizabeth Fowler is a photographer and filmmaker from Richmond, Virginia. Kate holds a BFA in Photography & Filmmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has served as the director of the Appalachian Media Institute, a project of Appalshop in Whitesburg, Kentucky. Formerly, Kate worked as the program coordinator of Magnum Foundation's Photography, Expanded initiative, which investigates documentary practice at the intersection of social justice and technology. She co-curated and produced their 2015 Photography, Expanded symposium at Parsons The New School for Design. She is currently on the editorial board of Roger May's Looking at Appalachia, a crowdsourced project that looks at photography in Appalachia, 50 years after the War on Poverty. Her writing and photography can be found on Burn Magazine, National Geographic, Oxford American, and American Suburb X.
