Explore warm and cold glass processes as well as screen printing techniques. Students will gain a basic understanding of editing digital files and preparing hand-drawn images to burn into screens. We’ll apply emulsion, expose screens and you’ll learn about applying glass powders in layers to create full, tonal images. We’ll also cover glass safety and get an understanding of how glass is fused in the kiln, annealed and cold worked.

Murphy, Kathryn

Kathryn Murphy is a mixed media artist who often uses mirrors in her work to distort and confront reflection. Murphy has been working with glass for over a decade, and received her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in Craft and Material Studies in 2018. While at VCU, Murphy received multiple grants and her thesis work was selected as the cover of the MFA Thesis Exhibition catalog. She currently resides in Norfolk, VA where she is the Program Coordinator at the Chrysler Museum's Perry Glass Studio. www.kateymurphy.com
