Focus on building structures out of solid borosilicate rod by breaking down the logistics of substructures for bridging when lampworking. We will focus on joinery for kinetic parts, shaping and sculpting, networking, and “drawing” with the glass. Students should come to this course ready to discuss forms they may be interested in approaching. You should be willing to deconstruct these forms through discussion, drawings and trial and error on the torch. We will learn basic molding and shaping techniques as well as gain an understanding of manipulating borosilicate glass. Demonstrations will include geometric structures, botanicals, networking and joints for kinetic parts. This is an intermediate level course, so you should have an understanding of hot seals.
